Eastbourne: a favourite trip for Geezers and friends

Group pose on Eastbourne Pier in summer clothes.

It was high summer but windy and changeable for the 2024 day trip to Eastbourne. An Action for Bow-funded coach-full of Geezers and Bow-resident friends made their way south to the coast, not sure what the day’s weather would bring them.

But when we arrived the sun was out and the promenade, pier and local hospitality had lost none of their charm. We were pleased to return, and to visit some new sights.

We saw the Towner Gallery, gazed out from its balcony over the famous lawn tennis courts, and enjoyed the exhibitions. Emma Stibbon’s drawings and prints look at the warming environment, including the effect on the Sussex coast down the road from Eastbourne. We were pleasantly surprised to travel so far and find links to East London in the work of Maria Amidu, responding to her own journey as a child relocated from Bow to Bexhill on Sea in 1973.

Though chief Geezer Eddie was unable to join us on this trip, we persevered and had a thoroughly enjoyable day out.

Thanks for another day out by the sea are due to Action for Bow, to our favourite driver, Farouke, and to Empress Coaches.
