More good news. Another pub saved from the developers by the exercise of people power.
Anna Pamphilon from the campaign – Team Chesham – reports their success.
18 May 2015 — Dear All,
We have some wonderful news to share. We did it! We won! The Chesham Arms will be opening again, as a pub, and very soon.
The owner, Mukund Patel, has finally come to the realisation that a) we are not going anywhere and b) Hackney Council are not going to grant permission for anything else in that spot. On that basis, he has signed over a 15 year lease on the pub to local pub and bar operator Andy Bird.
Andy wishes to relaunch a traditional English pub. The atmosphere will be characterised by conversation, enhanced by good quality beer, wine and food. Refurbishment works have been underway for some weeks now and there is a target launch date of 30th June 2015. As soon as we have confirmation, we will let you know.
Here is how BBC London covered the story: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-32765908
We were also mentioned in today’s Financial Times:

We will be hibernating the campaign as our work here is done but please be sure to update your bookmarks: www.cheshamarms.com (coming soon) and @CheshamArms
Thanks for all your support. We could not have saved the pub without you.
See you in The Chesham Arms this summer,
Jonathan, Martyn, James, Anna, Matthew, Steve and the whole of Team Chesham
