ActiveEnergy is a project that The Geezers have been working on for the past five years, supported by artist Loraine Leeson, engineer Toby Borland and others including social scientist Ann Light, SPACE Studios and ex-rocket scientist Stephen Dodds. The group have been using their expertise to explore how renewable energy might benefit their community, and in so doing are also hoping to influence wider practice and policy.
Work so far has involved a practical proposal for installing tidal turbines at the Thames Barrier, a renewable energy project at Bow Boys’ school, a wind-driven public light-work for the roof of Appian Court and prototyping workshops at University of East London.
A current initiative is to create a turbine for installation on a barge opposite the Houses of Parliament to prompt national debate on use of the River Thames as a source of energy for the city.
Keep an eye on the News section for information about the upcoming launch of the turbine
